INFINITI navigation problems and when an update is needed

The most common symptoms for which INFINITI owners seek a navigation update or check-up.

INFINITI navigation shows old maps

Factory-installed or previously installed data becomes outdated: new roads, roundabouts and bypasses appear, but the system doesn’t know about them. This is normal if the maps haven’t been updated for several years.

What you can check yourself: Check which menu opens – this will help identify the system (i1 or i2). Write down the year of the car.

We perform the map update: X7 (i1) from €60, X9 (i2) from €90.

Navigation doesn’t see new streets and roads

If the maps are old, the system will guide you along intersections that no longer exist or have changed. The road network is constantly changing.

What you can check yourself: Compare the route with your phone’s navigation and see where they differ.

We install the latest map version with detailed Lithuania. Price depends on the system: from €60 or from €90.

INFINITI navigation doesn’t read the disc

The cause may be a dirty or scratched disc, an unsuitable disc type or an outdated reader. The X9 (i2) system uses four discs.

What you can check yourself: Check that the disc is clean and inserted the right way up. Do not try to open the instrument panel or remove the unit.

We carry out diagnostics (from €25) and determine whether the problem lies with the disc or the system.

The update was interrupted or the navigation froze

This most often happens when the car was switched off, when someone pressed buttons, or when the power was interrupted. The process must run uninterrupted for about 2.5 hours.

What you can check yourself: Do not try to repeat the installation at home. Write down what the screen displayed.

We assess the condition of the system and repeat the installation – from 40 €.

INFINITI navigation shows the wrong location or cannot find satellites

The cause may be a poor signal in an enclosed space, a damaged GPS antenna or a system error. Outdated maps can also sometimes cause inaccurate positioning.

What you can check yourself: Drive to an open area and wait a few minutes. Restart the system by switching the ignition off and on again.

Diagnostics from 25 €; afterwards we tell you whether an update will be enough or further repair is needed.

The navigation is slow and the screen freezes

The X9 (i2) system stores its data on an internal HDD. Over time the disk may wear out, and slowness is sometimes also caused by outdated software.

What you can check yourself: Switch the ignition off and on. Do not try to disconnect the car battery, as this may cause additional errors.

We update the software (from 90 €); if the problems persist afterwards, we carry out diagnostics from 25 €.

POI data is outdated: no new petrol stations or hotels

POI data is updated together with the maps. If it is not updated for a long time, some points will be closed or relocated.

In the X9 (i2) system, POIs are updated together with the maps and software – from 90 €.

I don’t know whether an update is suitable for my INFINITI

There are many models and years, and the systems look similar from the outside. It is important to know not only the model but also the menu type.

What you can check yourself: Take a photo of the menu and check the car’s year of manufacture.

We identify the system by the menu and model – from 10 €. If your model is not on the list, we will tell you straight away.

Which INFINITI navigation system does your car have – i1 or i2?

We currently update two groups of systems. The first is Connect Premium X7 Xanavi (code i1): it uses one latest DVD with maps. It is used in EX, FX, Skyline and Skyline Coupe cars.

The second is Connect Premium X9 (code i2). This system uses four navigation discs, which update the internal hard disk drive (HDD): maps, software and POIs. It is suitable for EX and FX (2008–2012), G Coupe, G Sedan and G Convertible (2010–2012), M (2011–2012) and QX56 (2011–2012).

The system is recognised by the menu structure, so if you are unsure which one you have, it is enough to describe what the main navigation menu looks like or to send a screenshot.

  • i1 (X7 Xanavi) – one DVD, EX, FX, Skyline, Skyline Coupe.
  • i2 (X9) – four discs and an internal HDD, EX/FX 2008–2012, G 2010–2012, M and QX56 2011–2012.

Before calling, write down your car’s model and year of manufacture and briefly describe the navigation menu – this will help us identify the code faster.

What does the update include and which countries are covered?

The update covers Lithuania (in detail) and most of Europe: Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal (including Madeira), the Scandinavian countries, the Balkans, Turkey and small states such as Andorra, Monaco, San Marino and the Vatican. We can go through the full list over the phone.

On the X9 (i2) system, the software and POIs – petrol stations, hotels, car parks and other points of interest – are updated as well. That is why this option includes four discs rather than one.

Newer maps come in handy on trips around the Baltic states, Poland or Germany: over time, speed limits and junctions change and new road sections appear.

How does an infiniti navigation update work and how long does it take?

The process takes about 2.5 hours. For the whole of this time the car must be running and stationary.

The general practice is as follows: during the update, do not switch off the ignition, do not remove the disc and do not press the menu buttons until the system announces that it has finished. While the engine is running, the room must be well ventilated – running an engine for a long time in a closed garage is dangerous.

Since the wait is long, it is worth planning your visit so that you do not have to rush. Our branches are open Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 and closed at weekends, and the most convenient way to arrange a visit time is to call the car navigation phone line.

Bring all of the car’s keys so that the process is not interrupted.

Is it worth updating an old navigation system, or should you use a phone?

Phone apps are convenient, but they do not always replace an integrated system. Factory navigation works without the internet, shows the route on a large screen and does not require charging the phone with a cable.

If you often drive abroad or in areas with poor reception, an updated integrated navigation system remains convenient. If you only drive around the city and are already used to your phone, the update is less essential, but errors in old maps will become more frequent over time.

The systems of other Japanese manufacturers work in a similar way – see our pages on NISSAN navigation and LEXUS navigation. You can read about the technology itself in the article on how GPS navigation works.

How an INFINITI navigation update works

  1. Call and describe your car. Call the car navigation phone number and tell us the model, year of manufacture and what the navigation menu looks like. This is how we determine whether i1 or i2 is right for you.
  2. Choose a branch. Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai – no appointment is needed, just come in on a weekday. Branches are open Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00.
  3. Confirmed price. Before we start work, we tell you how much your system update will cost.
  4. Update. The car stays running the whole time and does not move. The process takes about 2.5 hours, and you must not switch anything off during it.
  5. Check and pick-up. When finished, we check that the system works and displays the new maps, and then you can drive away.
