Most common Peugeot navigation problems

Below are the symptoms people come to us with regarding Peugeot navigation, and their possible causes.

Peugeot navigation maps are outdated, new roads are missing

The maps have not been updated for several years, while roads and roundabouts keep changing. In older systems, new data does not appear on its own.

What you can check yourself: Check the map version in the system settings menu and note down the car’s VIN and year of manufacture.

We determine the system type and prepare the appropriate medium: SD card, USB flash drive, DVD, CD or HDD update. Indicative price from 59 €.

The navigation shows „no map” or „insert disc”

The system does not recognise the card or disc – the map version may be unsuitable, the medium may be damaged, or the VIN may not match. In older units, the CD reader often wears out.

What you can check yourself: Remove and reinsert the card or disc, and check that it is not scratched. Do not try to use a card from another car.

We check the medium, the system version and the reader. If necessary, we prepare a new medium or repair the reader – from 45 €.

Peugeot 3008 navigation update fails

The 3008 has more than one system variant (for example, V2 WIP Nav or NG4), and maps from the wrong generation will not load. A common cause is a VIN mismatch or outdated software.

What you can check yourself: Write down the VIN and the exact date of manufacture. Do not install files from unknown sources.

We identify the system and update it with the correct media. Diagnostics from €10, update from €59.

Why the navigation is not working – no GPS signal

Possible causes include a damaged or disconnected GPS antenna, poor contacts or a software error. A missing signal is common in underground car parks, but if there is none outdoors either, the antenna cable may be at fault.

What you can check yourself: Drive to an open area and wait a few minutes. Check that there are no metallised films or other devices stuck to the windscreen.

We check the antenna, its connectors and the unit itself. The repair price depends on the fault, usually from €60.

The navigation shows the wrong location or „jumps” around the map

This can be caused by a weak satellite signal, outdated software, an antenna fault or a disrupted connection with the speed sensor.

What you can check yourself: Switch off the ignition, wait a few minutes and restart the system. Check that there are no objects around the antenna.

We determine the cause, update the software or repair the unit’s connectors. Diagnostics from €10.

CD navigation does not read the disc (RT3, RT4, RT5)

A scratched disc, a dirty or worn laser head, or outdated software. For the RT3, it is important to use the correct disc: VAN for version 5.X and CAN for 6.X.

What you can check yourself: Check the disc and try another original one. By selecting DEVICE DESCRIPTION in the menu, you can see the software version.

We determine the version, update the software or repair the reader. Software update from €25, reader repair from €45.

The touchscreen works poorly or does not respond (RT6)

Possible causes include a software fault, a worn screen sensor or worn contacts. Hot or cold weather can also cause disruptions.

What you can check yourself: Wipe the screen with a soft cloth without any liquids and restart the system by switching off the ignition.

We diagnose the fault and, depending on it, update the software or repair the unit – from €60.

Navigation not working after a battery replacement

After the battery is disconnected, some systems ask for a code or lose their settings and media recognition.

What you can check yourself: Check that you have the system code (it is usually given in the documents) and that the media is inserted correctly.

We check the system and the media and, if necessary, prepare the maps again. Diagnostics from €10.

Routes or restrictions have disappeared from the map card

The card may have been formatted, damaged or overwritten by another device. Map files are tied to the car, so copying often fails.

What you can check yourself: Do not copy or format the card with a computer. Keep the original card if you still have it.

We prepare new map media based on the VIN. Indicative price from €59.

How to identify your Peugeot navigation system?

Several different generations of navigation have been used in Peugeot cars, and maps from one system cannot be loaded into another. Therefore, it is important to know not only the model, but also the year of manufacture and the equipment type. The same model, for example the 3008 or 5008, may have different systems depending on the production date.

By map media, the systems can be divided into several groups:

  • MMCS with HDD (code p1) – maps on the hard drive; Peugeot 4007 and 4008.
  • WIP Nav+ (RT6, SMEG, SMEG+, SMEG6) (p2) – touchscreen, maps on a USB flash drive; Peugeot 508 from 2010, 5008 from 2012, Expert from 2012.
  • V2 WIP Nav (Connect Nav) (p3) – SD card; 207 and 308 from 2008.11, 407 from 2008.10, 807 from 2008.11, 3008 from 2009.04, 5008 from 2009.10, Expert / Partner B9 from 2009.01.
  • WIP Com 3D NaviDrive NG4 (p4) – DVD and SD card; 308CC and 407 from 2010, 3008, 5008 from 2009.02.
  • WIP Com / Connect Com / RT4, RT5, RT3 Magneti Marelli (p5, p6) – CD discs; Boxer, 1007, 206, 207, 307, 308 (until 2009.01), 407, 607, 807.
  • Siemens VDO Dayton (p7) – CD; Peugeot 607 with a large colour screen until 2004.09.

Bring your car’s VIN number (it is given in the vehicle registration certificate): it is required to prepare the maps, especially for RT6 systems.

Navigation update for the Peugeot 3008 and other models: what matters?

A frequent question is the Peugeot 3008 navigation update. According to the data on this page, the 3008 from 2009.04 uses the V2 WIP Nav with an SD card, while the 3008 is also listed among the NG4 systems with DVD and SD. We determine which of them is installed in your car after inspecting the system and the VIN.

In the map lists for SD, USB and DVD systems, Lithuania is listed as a detailed map. For CD systems, maps are divided into discs by region, so one disc covers only part of Europe: for Lithuania, the Baltic States disc is used (p5 – CD07, p6 – CD10, p7 – CD3).

If you are traveling to several countries, tell the technician your route in advance – CD systems will need discs for the appropriate regions.

Can a Peugeot navigation update be free, and is it worth updating?

People often search for a „free navigation update”. Generally speaking, manufacturers of newer cars sometimes offer free updates over an internet connection, but for older Peugeot systems (MMCS, RT3–RT6, NG4) the latest maps are usually paid. Downloading unofficial files of unknown origin may damage the system or fail to load, because maps are tied to the car’s VIN.

It is worth updating if you often drive to unfamiliar places, new districts or abroad. New roundabouts, changed traffic arrangements and new motorway sections are not shown on old maps, so the system may suggest confusing or even impossible routes.

What is the difference between updating a car’s navigation and a portable navigation device?

A car’s built-in system is updated differently from a standalone GPS device. It can be updated with a map card, USB flash drive, DVD or CD, and in some cases the software must be updated first.

If you want to learn how satellite positioning works and why the signal is sometimes lost, read the article on how a GPS navigation system works. For update options for other car brands, see the general navigation map update page, and for cars from the same group’s manufacturer, see the Citroen navigation page.

How a Peugeot navigation update works

  1. Come to a branch. Visit our Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai branch Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00 with the car’s documents or VIN number. If you have an old card or disc, please bring it.
  2. We identify the system type. Based on the model, year of manufacture, VIN and the system menu, we determine whether it is MMCS, RT6, V2 WIP Nav, NG4, RT3–RT5 or Siemens VDO.
  3. We agree on the price. We tell you what type of media is needed and how much the work will cost. The price is agreed before work begins.
  4. We prepare and install the maps. We prepare an SD card, USB flash drive, DVD or CD, or update the HDD. If the system does not read it, we also check the software version.
  5. We check that it works and hand it back. We check that the system recognizes the maps and finds a route, then return the car or the media.
