Looking for someone to repair your vacuum cleaner because it has stopped suctioning, keeps switching off, makes a loud noise or simply won’t turn on? On this page you will find approximate prices, descriptions of the most common faults, a few checks you can do yourself, and an explanation of how repairs work at our branches.

We repair household, cordless (stick-type), robot, wet-and-dry (washing) and industrial vacuum cleaners. Many faults are minor – a worn-out motor, a broken button, a clogged system or a depleted battery – and the repair often costs significantly less than a new vacuum cleaner.

Most common vacuum cleaner faults and how they are repaired

Below are the faults for which people most often seek vacuum cleaner repair. The prices given are approximate labour prices excluding parts. If your case is different, bring your vacuum cleaner in for diagnostics anyway.

Vacuum cleaner won’t turn on

The most common culprits are the plug, a broken or kinked power cord, a faulty button or a burnt-out motor. In the case of a cordless (stick-type) vacuum cleaner, it is a depleted battery or a faulty charger.

What you can check yourself: Try a different socket and inspect the cord and plug for cracks or burn marks. Charge a cordless vacuum cleaner with the original charger.

We repair or replace the plug (from 10 €), the button and power-on circuit (from 15 €) or the motor (from 25 €). These are approximate labour prices excluding parts.

Vacuum cleaner has weak suction, lost suction power

The most common cause is a clogged hose, clogged filters or a full dust container. If everything is clean, the motor may be worn out.

What you can check yourself: Empty the container or replace the bag, wash or replace the filters, and check the hose and nozzle for blockages.

We carry out a full disassembly and cleaning (from 20 €), and if the motor is at fault, we repair or replace it (from 25 €).

The vacuum cleaner makes a loud hum or noise

Loud humming is often caused by worn motor bearings, an object that has been sucked in, or a clogged air system. A ringing sound may indicate a worn fan.

What you can check yourself: Switch off the vacuum cleaner and check the hose and nozzle for a stuck hard object. Clean the brush roller.

We repair or replace the motor (from 25 €) and carry out a full disassembly and cleaning (from 20 €).

The vacuum cleaner switches off while vacuuming

The most common cause is overheating due to clogged filters or air channels. It may also be a poor contact, a faulty button or a worn motor.

What you can check yourself: Wait for the vacuum cleaner to cool down, clean the filter and the container, and check whether there is a blockage in the hose.

We diagnose whether the motor, the button or a contact is at fault: repair of the button and switch-on circuit starts from 15 €, and motor repair from 25 €. In case of overheating, we carry out disassembly and cleaning (from 20 €).

The vacuum cleaner sparks, smokes or smells of burning

Most often the cause is worn motor brushes, a short circuit or an overheated motor. This is dangerous, and the vacuum cleaner must no longer be used.

What you can check yourself: Unplug it immediately and do not use the vacuum cleaner. Do nothing else – do not try to open it or test it again.

We diagnose the fault and repair the motor (from 25 €) or the switch-on circuit (from 15 €).

The power cord does not retract or retracts by itself

Most often the cord rewind mechanism, spring or latch fails. Sometimes the cord breaks or snaps near the plug.

What you can check yourself: Check that the cord is not caught behind the edge of the housing. Gently pull it out all the way and let it rewind.

We replace the internal mechanism (from 20 €), repair the plug (from 10 €) and broken housing parts (from 15 €).

The stick vacuum cleaner does not charge or discharges quickly

The battery usually reaches the end of its life after several years of use, and the charger or charging connector may also be faulty. As the capacity decreases, the time between charges gets shorter.

What you can check yourself: Try another socket and check that the charger cable and socket are not damaged. Do not open the battery or try to replace it yourself.

We replace stick vacuum cleaner batteries (from 20 €). Whether the charging connector or the electronics are at fault, we determine during diagnostics (10 €).

The stick or robot vacuum cleaner does not move, the brush does not spin

In a robot vacuum cleaner, the wheels or the side brush most often get stuck, or hair gets wound around them. In a stick-type vacuum cleaner, the brush motor or its contacts fail.

What you can check yourself: Remove hair and threads from the brush and wheels, and check whether the sensors are dirty.

After diagnostics, we will tell you what needs to be replaced or repaired and how much it will cost. For more about robots, see the robot vacuum cleaner repair page.

The housing does not close or the button does not lock

Most often the latches are broken, the housing is cracked or the button spring is stuck after a fall.

What you can check yourself: Check whether any debris is stuck in the latch or around the button.

We replace broken housing parts (from 15 €) and the button (from 15 €).

Water leaks from the wet vacuum cleaner’s tank, or water has been sucked in

The seals may be faulty, the tank may be cracked, or water may have entered the motor section. Water and electricity are a dangerous combination.

What you can check yourself: Immediately unplug the vacuum cleaner, pour the water out of the tank and let the vacuum cleaner dry; do not try to switch it on until a technician has inspected it.

We carry out diagnostics and cleaning and, if necessary, motor repair (from 25 €). We will quote the price for other damaged parts after diagnostics.

The light is on, but the vacuum cleaner does not work or shows an error

The light shows that power is coming in, but the control electronics may be faulty, a sensor may be stuck, or the overheating protection may have tripped. Robots show errors because of sensors, brushes or wheels.

What you can check yourself: Switch off the vacuum cleaner and wait about 15 minutes, clean the filters and sensors, then try again.

We diagnose and repair the power control mechanism or the switch-on circuit (from 15 €).

Is it worth repairing a vacuum cleaner or buying a new one?

A simple rule: if the repair cost (labour and part) does not exceed roughly a third to a half of the price of a new, similar vacuum cleaner, repairing it usually pays off. For example, replacing a button, a plug, a cord rewind mechanism or a battery costs from a few tens of euros, while a new mid-range vacuum cleaner costs several hundred.

If the vacuum cleaner is expensive (a cordless stick type, a robot, a washable model), repair is almost always cheaper than replacement. A cheap old model with a burnt-out motor is worth weighing more carefully – in that case the exact price can only be estimated after diagnostics, because part prices vary by model.

Diagnostics costs 10 €; the exact repair price can only be given once it has been carried out.

  • Worth repairing: a broken or non-retracting cord, a faulty button, a plug, a worn-out stick vacuum battery, a blockage, a damaged housing.
  • Worth calculating: a burnt-out motor in an old, cheap vacuum cleaner model.
  • Usually worth repairing: expensive cordless and robot vacuum cleaners where the fault is a single part.

Before taking your vacuum cleaner to a service centre, check its purchase price and whether the seller’s warranty is still valid – while the warranty applies, it is best to discuss the repair with the seller first.

Which manufacturers and types of vacuum cleaners we repair

Very different vacuum cleaners are brought to our branches: Bosch, Philips, Electrolux, Miele, Karcher, Samsung, Dyson, Xiaomi, iRobot, Dreame, Hoover, Thomas, Zelmer and many other manufacturers. This is a general list of what we most often see, not a promise of official representation – whether we can repair a specific model becomes clear after an inspection.

A stick vacuum cleaner most often suffers from problems with the battery, the charging connector and the brush motor. In classic bagged or container vacuum cleaners, the motor, the cord mechanism and the button fail more often. Washable vacuum cleaners sometimes have problems with water getting into the electronic parts.

Robot vacuum cleaners have a separate page – you can find out more in the section robot vacuum cleaner repair. If you have other household appliances, see household appliance repair.

When bringing in your vacuum cleaner, take everything you have with you: the charger, the base station, the brush or the attachments – sometimes the fault lies in the accessory connector rather than in the vacuum cleaner itself.

How to extend the lifespan of your vacuum cleaner

Most faults are caused by dirty filters, an overfilled container and an overheated motor. When the filter becomes clogged, the air cools the motor poorly, the vacuum cleaner starts to overheat, switches off and eventually the motor burns out.

A few simple rules significantly reduce the likelihood of a fault, especially if you vacuum pet hair or construction dust.

  • Empty the container when it is filled to the mark, and replace the bag on time.
  • Wash or replace the filters according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Regularly remove hair and threads from the brush roller.
  • Do not vacuum up water, damp rubbish or fine construction dust unless your vacuum cleaner is designed for it.
  • Pull the cord by the plug, not by the cord itself, and charge a cordless vacuum cleaner according to the instructions without leaving it charging unnecessarily.

If the vacuum cleaner starts to smell of burning, sparks or smokes, unplug it immediately and stop using it – further use may cause more costly damage.

Vacuum cleaner repair and insurance

If your vacuum cleaner or home contents are insured, the insurance company will need a document stating the cause of the fault. We issue a vacuum cleaner fault assessment report, which costs 30 €, and the insurance covers its cost.

Before bringing it in for the report, check the terms of your insurance and bring your purchase documents, if you have them. The requirements of each insurer differ slightly, so it is worth finding out in advance what information is needed for the report.

How vacuum cleaner repair works

  1. Bring your vacuum cleaner to a branch. Visit our Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda or Šiauliai branch Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00; we are closed at weekends. Bring the vacuum cleaner with its charger if it is cordless, and briefly describe how the fault appears.
