What to check before bringing in your TV
Sometimes the problem is not with the TV itself. Unplug the power cable from the socket for about a minute and plug it back in, check that the remote control works (replace the batteries), and make sure the right source (HDMI, antenna) is selected.
If the screen shows a no-signal message while other channels or sources work, the cause may be the antenna cable, a set-top box or the provider’s equipment rather than the TV.
- Try a different power socket and, if you can, a different HDMI cable.
- Check whether a picture appears when you shine a torch on the screen – if it is barely visible, the backlight is most often faulty.
- Disconnect USB devices and any other connected equipment.
If the TV crackles, smells of burning or smoke is visible, unplug it from the socket immediately and do not try to switch it on.
